Much has been said about Insanity vs P90X that we sometimes get lost on which one will better suit our needs. There are a lot of pros and cons which aim to distinguish Insanity from P90X and vice versa. But what is it really about this Insanity vs P90X face-off that really gives us an idea on what route to take? It’s probably the complexity of exercises or the required length of time to complete the program. However, there are more aspects that we need to take a glance of before we can choose between Insanity vs P90X.

When I started to use the two workout programs simultaneously last year, there are three factors that I have found useful in comparing between Insanity vs P90X. Although they are not in any way conclusive, these three aspects can really give anyone the nitty gritty of these two most intense at-home exercise programs of today. For the benefit of my readers, I will try to give each a brief overview.

Insanity vs P90X | The Workout Schedule

If you want to know what kind of workout program your body can tolerate, it’s better to take a closer look on the difference between Insanity vs P90X in terms of their workout schedules.

For P90X, the first three weeks is usually spent with the six workout routines plus one day of rest period for each week that passes. The fourth week, also known as the recovery week, is when the Core Synergistics are performed including yoga and plyometrics. After that, month 2 starts and the next three weeks will be fully loaded with a combination of muscle confusion exercises and high calorie burning cardio. Month 2 is when you really start to see outer body changes. It will be followed by another recovery week with the last few weeks being spent by doing alternating routines between month 1 and 2 to make the most of what muscle confusion can offer.

If I’m going to compare Insanity vs P90X, P90X warm-up routines are much easier than Insanity’s. P90X warm ups are more to get your body moving in the directions that you will be performing resistant training moves but in a more subtle way. Insanity gets you going with 3 rounds of approximately 7 moves just to get you warmed up! That is 21 moves total that get faster each round before you even reach the workout segment. By the end of the warm up for Insanity, you are already dripping as if you just got out of a pool. At least that is how I feel.

The first three days of Insanity is fully packed with intense workouts, followed by a recovery day, another 2 days of intense exercises, and the seventh being considered as another rest day. During the last half of the Insanity program, or month two, more intense workout routines will put your cardiovascular functions to test. In the “Max” series during month 2, the workouts get tougher and longer so make sure you have your basic foundation intact and well-established during the first 30 days.

Insanity vs P90X | The Diet Program

Insanity VS P90X
Insanity Nutrition vs P90X Nutrition - Make it Your Own!

In terms of the diet program, there are no food items that make either one of Insanity vs P90X better than the other. Of course, these diet programs were made to cater the unique needs of participants of each exercise program so it’s understandable that they differ in terms of nutrient proportions. Between Insanity vs P90X, it’s quite obvious that P90X holds a more complex diet program than Insanity.

P90X requires 3 different phases to complete its diet program:
1) Fat shredder
2) Energy booster
3) Endurance maximizer.

These phases coincide with the different periods of the exercise program. The first phase is intended to help the participant shred fat, the second phase to gain more muscles, and the last one to support increased energy demands by getting more calories from the diet.

The Insanity diet program is relatively simpler because it only requires 5 meals per day, 2-3 hours apart, for the rest of the program. However, just like in the P90X diet, strict proportions for each food group are followed. Insanity diet consists of exactly 40% carbohydrates, 40% protein and 20% of healthy fats coming from healthy food sources such as fruits, vegetables and lean proteins. P90X changes the percentages just like a seesaw, with you starting out with more protein than carbs, and by the time your done with your 90 days, you are on a heavier carb than protein diet and trust me, you will need those carbs!

Insanity vs P90X | The Overall Cost

Especially if the economy is tough, Insanity vs P90X can be more of a battle that determines which provides the greatest affordability. I know it should never be the deciding factor to declare which wins between Insanity vs P90X but it’s safe to assume that people want to know which program can help them more in saving a dollar or two.

Between Insanity vs P90X, it’s better to choose what really suits your needs and capacity. They’re both available at exactly the same price of $119.85, or 25% off if you are a coach or wholesale member. If you’re going to think about the added bonus you will receive from either one of these programs, you will surely never mind the price. Bonus DVDs including the Fountain of Youth Yoga for P90X and Fast and  Furious workout DVDs for Insanity are up for grabs once you sign-up for these programs. However, the equipments required for P90X like resistance bands and dumbbells might add up to the total cost of the program, making Insanity a cheaper alternative for those who can tolerate its intense routines.
